The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program provides law enforcement and police services to the school, school grounds and areas adjacent to the school. Investigate allegations of criminal incidents per police department policies and procedures.  The SRO enforces state and local laws and ordinances and assist in making the appropriate referrals to juvenile authorities or other governmental agencies.  The greatest aspect of the SRO program is the ability to work to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact and positive relationships with students. In addition the SRO develops crime prevention programs and conduct security inspections to deter criminal or delinquent activities. In addition, the SRO establishes and maintains a close partnership with school administrators in order to provide for a safe school environment. Assisting school administrator in emergency crisis planning and building security matters. Provides a course of training for school personnel in handling crisis situations, which may arise at the school. The SRO impacts the students by being visible within the school community, attending and participating in school functions, and building working relationships with the school’s staff as well as with student and parent groups.

Sgt. Dedra Davis

Sergeant Dedra Davis started with the Cordele Police Dept in 1999. She became the School Resource Officer of Crisp County Middle School shortly thereafter. She became the Gang Resistance Education and Trainer Officer in 2001. G.R.E.A.T is a 13 week course. G.R.E.A.T teaches children the truth about gangs, how to deal with peer pressure, how to solve conflicts, dealing with anger management issues and how to set realistic goals. At the end of this program the children do a project on “ Making your Community a Great Place”. They also have a G.R.E.A.T Graduation. Sgt Davis has graduated over 3,000 students from the program.
